Step on a Crack

Step on a CrackHint: don’t read a tear-jerker while eating lunch at work. People might think you’re strange.

The basic mystery-solving part of the story is quite clever. While I didn’t know exactly who the “inside man” was, I knew where I ought to be looking for him. So when he was revealed at the end, I wasn’t terribly surprised. The gang of thugs, though? Clever! Very clever.

The human-interest part of the story, as I alluded to, is a tear-jerker. Oh, I didn’t really care much one way or the other about the hostages… but I got totally sucked into the main character and his family. I hope to see more books starring Mike Bennett.

And overall, a very good book that I highly recommend!

I never got into this one, found the main character’s personal life far too incredulous. This is the only James Patterson I’ve read, and it turned me off reading anymore to be honest.

Each to their own though. Plenty people seem to like the man’s books, and he shows no signs that he’s going to stop churning them out. So more power to the Patterson fans.

Except for the dying mother part, I seem to have met more than my fair share of similar families. Perhaps they’re all over here in the States, eh?

Some of Patterson’s books are quite good, and some are really awful. The Alex Cross books are mostly good.
